We set up an instant texting plan for the class in case of bad weather or in the event the instructor has trouble getting a parking space. The instructor will phone Tasneem or Nicole (backup) and they will convey the message to the rest of the class.
Next we worked on topics for the informative speech. Students were divided into groups and they brainstormed about areas they wanted to learn more about. Then we recorded the topics at this link . Students can continue to add topics if they think of more later. The instructor showed students a list of additional topics and she went over them. Students are to come to Thursday's class with their topic selection.
The instructor handed back the student copy of the group symposium. A few students did not get theirs: Erica, Sal, Nicole, Ashley, Aajjaa, and Shayyine. They will be returned at the next class session.
After we chose topics, the instructor put the "I Am" journal assignment up on the overhead projector and we went over it. Links to this assignment will be posted here later.
Next class:
Work on outlines, as we will do check-in next Thursday
Bring Annotated Works Cited, as we will correct in class
Have topic chosen and some research done. Have a narrowed-down topic to commit to at the next class.
The instructor will distribute hard copies of the assignment for I Am.
