Dreamweaver

We worked through all the exercises in the Reading/Exercise Schedule plus the upload instructions on page 192.

Rachel and Michael told us about two storage spots to keep files worked on in class:

Dropbox allows 2 gbs storage but you have to download a program on your home PC.

Boxnet gives one gb storage and there is no program to download.

The instructor talked about an opportunity to build a web site for a language arts business and asked interested students to let her know via email if they want the contact name.

The instructor introduced the assignment for July 7.

No class on Monday, July 5.

Wednesday

We learned how to create pages, save new pages, and use starter layouts. In addition, we learned how to preview the pages in various browsers and also how to add browsers to the DW program. The instructor suggested students download Apple Safari and add it to their DW program at home.

We began the design elements and added paragraphs and learned how to do headings.

Students then did their presentations. We heard from Michael, Ronnie, and Marcy. Next week we will hear from Glenn and Jaclyn.

The instructor gave the assignment, which is:

Answer this question: Six things I Know that Most People Don't Know.

Categorize them from most important to least important and put the information under each heading: level 1 will have one answer, level 2 will have one answer, level 3 will have one answer, etc.

Once you have completed the page, upload it to your server.

The objectives of this assignment are:

a) Teach students the six heading sizes
b) Ask students to categorize appropriately under the heading size
c) Upload a page to their own server

After delivering the assignment, the instructor passed out a quiz and the students did the quiz anonymously. We went over the answers in class and graded them.

Finally, the last thing we did was to check out Microsoft's Expression Web. The instructor suggested to students that they download it a little later in the class to evaluate it against DW.

Next week:

Mail instructor your URL for the categories assignment. It would be helpful to have this by Sunday, June 20.

Note: This link is for students interested in publishing. It is a story about a woman who has been working with publishing online since the beginning of the internet.

We had a vocabulary quiz where students used the terms from last Wednesday in a sentence.

Next we had student presentations of dynamic and static pages that are offered by Dreamweaver. Linda, Rachel, and May gave their presentations.

On Wednesday, Glenn, Ronnie, and Michael will give their presentations. Marcy will examine her page and also present Wednesday.

The instructor delivered a .ppt on the history of Dreamweaver. We examined other WYSIWIG editors (links on this post).

At the end of class, students were given additional computer terms and they tried to write definitions. The instructor went over each of the terms.
