Thursday, Sept. 12
We looked over Ch.1 and talked about the various types of groups there are. We looked for examples of groups in students' lives but we didn't come up with many.
At another time the instructor will discuss quality circles.
The instructor told students about her previous work as a freelance group facilitator. She suggested students keep copies of the class exercises in case they ever want to do something similar.
We went into small groups to experience an icebreaker exercise. Every group facilitator should have a repertoire of icebreakers, as they are frequently needed. Students elected a leader and the leader made sure all the participants of the group answered the questions.
Students then went back to their regular position in the class and were given a questionnaire and were asked to answer the questions anonymously. At an upcoming class, the instructor will give the class an overview of the answers.
To Do for Next Class
Answer the questions for the Ch. 1 handout and write approximately one page of the question that interests you the most. This assignment is due next Tuesday.
Work on the questions for Ch. 2; same situation with the written question. This assignment is due next Thursday.
Per the reading schedule, read Ch. 3. A similar questionnaire will be distributed next week.
Tuesday, Sept 10
We did a few introductions.
We divided into groups for future experiential learning purposes. We exchanged contact information. The instructor made copies so students each had the contact information.
To Do for Next Class:
Read Ch. 1. We will finish intros and do an experiential exercise with our groups.
