The instructor returned the drama drafts and asked students to underline their terms. Later in the class, the papers were returned with corrections and input.
Next she talked about the upcoming drama quiz and told students what types of items might be on the quiz. The quiz will probably be given in the next two weeks.
She then discussed the Greek theater, for which there was an accompanying PowerPoint presentation.
The poetry assignment was introduced and students to read the first half of the poetry handout, which is posted at the links at left.
The instructor will deliver a sample presentation next week.
We read a research paper example and the instructor asked the students to look for certain items in the paper, such as how points were developed.
The last item we worked on was colons. The instructor showed a PowerPoint and the students wrote sample sentences. We will continue this activity next week.

102 Friday 6-9 What Happened in Class
The instructor collected Pt. 2 of the research paper and returned Pt. 1.
We discussed Langan and how much the completed book will count toward the grade. We looked at the syllabus and determined that the Langan will be 15 of the 25 class participation points.
We talked about stage directions and what function they serve in a play read as literature. We also discussed the play we saw last week and the instructor talked about McCarthyism. We looked at a PowerPoint that showed pictures from that time.
We went through a handout the instructor provided called "A Dozen Things I Know About Writing."
We did peer readings of the drama paper. While students were doing the peer readings, the instructor read Pt. 2.
The instructor talked about primary and secondary sources. We saw examples of the George Washington letter that was found at Kean University.
To Do:
Three chapters a week in Langan for the rest of the term.
Write Point 3
Lester Ch. 7
Continue research and writing on paper

Writing 102_Friday, 6-9 p.m.
First we read the syllabus using the overhead projector. The syllabus is being distributed as an online document, however, the schedule of activities and assignments and class notebook guidelines were distributed as hard copies.
Each student read a portion of the syllabus and the instructor explained or added to certain sections. One policy that we are considering is how many lates equal an absence. Students are to consider what they think is fair and provide input next week.
The instructor showed students the books and asked that if they order online, to keep their receipt proving when they ordered. If the book should be sent late, this proof will excuse the student from academic penalties that might result from not having the book. All assignments must be made up, however. Books should be purchased as soon as possible.
Next students did the writing sample and handed their sample into the instructor. This sample serves as a benchmark. It also might be an inspiration for the research paper.
Student topics will be posted here over the weekend, so if students are in search of a topic, they are encouraged to look at the topics list.
To do for next week:
Think about a topic. If writing sample is the choice, the instructor will provide input which will be received next week.
Purchase books and read Ch 1 in Lester and Ch. 1 in Langan.
Look at the topics list for other possible topics.
