ENG102 Sat. 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Students turned in their thesis statements and we made copies of them and critiqued them in class.  The thesis statements were critiqued using points made in Lester.


The class selected a play in Rutherford called Underneath the Lintel. We are projecting Nov 19 at 8 p.m. The instructor will call the playhouse for group ticket prices and students with check with their employers regarding the schedule.
Second choice would be Vita and Virginia sometime in October.

Write two pages about your poetry genre and the poets place in the genre. Use internal text citations and update works cited.

ENG 102 Sat., 9-12:15

We started off by working on commas. The instructor showed students a .ppt and gave them a worksheet. We wrote sample sentences.

A 3-ring notebook of papers written for the poetry assignment was distributed and students had a chance to see how others from previous classes fulfilled this assignment.

The instructor looked at a new classroom. She is going to try to get us into L301 or L304/315.

We went over the Annotated Works Cited that students brought to class. We exchanged papers and students critiqued the work of their colleagues. Twenty-five CPPs were given to students who had this assignment in on time.

The instructor handed out an internal text citation worksheet. We went over two ways to do in-text citations and also how to attribute sources that have more than one author.

The instructor wrote a thesis statement on the board. Students are to write their own and bring it to the next class session.

To Do for Next Class:

Research paper:

-Find more sources (minimum 3 additional). Add to your existing Annotated Works Cited. Highlight the new sources with a highlighting marker. In addition, write in the left hand margin what the source is:  print book, online book, online magazine article, article at web site, etc.
-Read Ch's 3 & 8
-Write out a working thesis statement to turn in.

Drama:

Tuesday:

We did a four-page questionnaire that dealt with creativity.

We corrected reading checks.

The instructor put the student's print layouts on the overhead projector. She picked them up and will hand them back at the next class.

Health Communication M-W 6-7:15

Both Monday and Wednesday of this week we are watching "The Doctor."

There will be a writing assignment that asks students to interact with the text and "The Doctor."

On Oct. 1 there will be an open book exam on one of the Ch. 2s of our text.

New writing questions:

1. Discuss the development of Dr. Jack McKee’s intrapersonal intelligence (Drench 22). Use examples to support what events help him grow. How does this affect his interpersonal intelligence with his students at the end of the film?
2.  Pretend you are Dr. Jack McKee and you are writing a diary of your experiences during your illness. The purpose of your journal is self-assessment--to document thoughts and feelings. Cover the major events in the illness and also the interaction with both his wife and with June. See Drench, pages 23-24.
3. According to Rogers, empathy involves cognitive, affective, and communication components (Northouse 25). Cite an example of each from the film and discuss it within the concept of the multidimensional process way of looking at empathy.
   
   
   4. “When clients fell understood, they feel connected to others and a part of life” (Northouse 26). Discuss the connection June and Jack develop when they fly to New Mexico to see the native Indian show. How does the connection reappear at the end of the movie?
