In class, students will write about where they are with their three clients.
We go over layouts and those who have to revise and return
Give market research questionnaire assignment
Go over handouts on the questionnaire

Tuesday:
We did a four-page questionnaire that dealt with creativity.
We corrected reading checks.
The instructor put the student's print layouts on the overhead projector. She picked them up and will hand them back at the next class.
Health Communication M-W 6-7:15
Both Monday and Wednesday of this week we are watching "The Doctor."
There will be a writing assignment that asks students to interact with the text and "The Doctor."
On Oct. 1 there will be an open book exam on one of the Ch. 2s of our text.

- Discuss the development of Dr. Jack McKee’s intrapersonal intelligence (Drench 22). Use examples to support what events help him grow. How does this affect his interpersonal intelligence with his students at the end of the film?
- Pretend you are Dr. Jack McKee and you are writing a diary of your experiences during your illness. The purpose of your journal is self-assessment--to document thoughts and feelings. Cover the major events in the illness and also the interaction with both his wife and with June. See Drench, pages 23-24.
- According to Rogers, empathy involves cognitive, affective, and communication components (Northouse 25). Cite an example of each from the film and discuss it within the concept of the multidimensional process way of looking at empathy.4. “When clients fell understood, they feel connected to others and a part of life” (Northouse 26). Discuss the connection June and Jack develop when they fly to New Mexico to see the native Indian show. How does the connection reappear at the end of the movie?

Introductions (instructor will distribute questions)
Discuss research paper topics and work with them using p.3 from Lester book
Talk about sample drama paper and discuss plays
Explain where drama terms are on blog
Check in receipts when doing attendance
During the first hour of class we did interviews for our introductions.
We checked in receipts.
In the second part of class (in the lab), students gave the instructor their topics and we refined them by personal interest, academic subject, and possible topics. The next step is to write a working thesis.
To Do for Next Class:
Write the introduction for your partner and come prepared to deliver from a key word outline.
No reading of introductions, please.
Go to poets.org and make selection of genre. We will log them in at the next class.

Reading is Ch. 3 on Diversity in advertising.

Presentation by Eileen Ruf and Dan Reyes on The Tower advertising.
We will do more work on the graphic file formats today.
One or two introductions, as time permits.
Assignment:
Make calls (in person or on the phone) regarding ad for newspaper.

Finish introductions. We still have several to do.
Check in workbooks for completion of Ch. 1. We checked in workbooks, but students who showed a receipt get an extra week or so to do the assignment.
Journal exercise for class discussion:
Self presentation goals (p. 24): Goals of showing yourself to others (through interpersonal communication) about how you wish to be perceived. Example: a person stifles frustration in order to be seen as cooperative.
Instrumental goals: Practical goals you want to achieve or tasks you want to accomplish through a particular interpersonal encounter, such as obtaining directions or asking about ingredients in a recipe
Relationship goals: Goals of building, maintaining, or destroying relationship with others through interpersonal communication, such as when a person compliments another on his or her choice in music in order to encourage attention from the other person.
Each student in class evaluated a recent conversation according to the above communication goals. We discussed some in class, and students turned in their papers for 25 class participation points. The exercise cannot be made up.

We will check in work on Friday
We will have an exercise based on the journal writing exercise and we will also view some film clips.
Monday
First, the instructor reviewed what we learned in the last class session, which was about "I-it" and "I-thou."
Next we did introductions. About half the class did their introductions, which will be continued at the next class.
We also talked about the definition of manipulation. We will work further with this concept in future classes.
