Person consistency and writing exercise

Take out the first and second person and change this paragraph to be consistently in the third person. Use the tips at the bottom of the handout:

When television is bad, nothing is worse. I invite each of you to sit down in front of your television set when your station goes on the air and stay there, for a day, without a book, without a magazine, without a newspaper, without a profit and loss sheet or a rating book to distract you. Keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that what you will observe is a vast wasteland."

To Do for Next Class:

Research paper:

Write two pages of your first point. Due next class, March 16. Give it a title and use a header, putting your last name in. No page #s at this point.  Put working thesis statement at the top of each page (might be helpful to temporarily put in header).  Attach Works Cited and do an in-text citation to each source listed on the W.C.

Poetry:

Write two pages that combines the poetry explication to the literary criticism. Same as research paper re WC, etc.

Read "How to Read a Poem" (also in links section at right)

Plagiarism:

Listen to podcast on copyright law and plagiarism from "On the Media."  There will be a study guide to fill out. It (a link) will be posted here and it will also be sent to your UCC email address.
