CRANFORD (MAY 9TH, 2009) OPENING NIGHTS ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON
The Theater Project, Union County College's Professional Theater Company, is proud to present a staged reading series of original plays by members of The Theater Project’s Playwrights Development Workshop, which is led by Artistic Director Mark Spina. These script-in-hand performances offer the excitement and immediacy of actually sitting in on rehearsals with the talented members of The Theater Project.
On Saturday, MAY 9TH, The Theater Project’s series presents BURN OUT written by Ed Lataro and directed by Lou Scarpati.
BURNOUT: Eric has one last chance to escape his hellish government job!
His work helping blind people connect to services may be a noble pursuit, but the bureaucracy is killing him. Eric is perfecting an invention that will allow him to escape the civil service maze.
The presentation will be followed by a discussion with the playwright, director, actors and audience, in the Union County College Student Commons, 1033 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ.
ADMISSION IS FREE, thanks to the support of The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, The Union County College Foundation, a HEART Grant (History-Education-Arts-Reaching-Thousands) from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and the generosity of Ms. Stephanie Fein and Mrs. Marion Curka.
Ed Lataro writes theatrical plays and screenplays. His productions include MINOTAUR at the Basic Theater in NYC, and BUBBLE WORLD and BLUE PEOPLE at the THEATER PROJECT in Cranford. In June he will have VICTOR and WIDOWMAKER produced at the Bergen County Playfest in Dumont He received honorable mention in Writer’s Digest Magazine Playwriting Contesting. Ed holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Montclair State College. He resides in Nutley, NJ.
