Here is the Event Planning Grade Worksheet that I revised. Use this one instead of the one given to you at the beginning of the term.

Suggested Items for Portfolio:

Following are suggested items for the portfolio. This part of the class is only for students who intend to work in event planning:

1. Group project with items printed out in color or put on CD

2. Signage memo. Add map of Kean University and mark quadrants. Color copy of map.

3. Photocopy of text (cover, in color) and table of contents. Outline example from the outlines you did for class.

Attn: ENG 102 Tues-Thurs Students

There will be no class on Thursday, May 8 because of Basic Skills Testing. ENG 102 students should bring all their materials to the Tuesday class.

Update: Here is how we will handle the last class:

1. As soon as students arrive, they will begin the open-book quiz on Lester readings. The instructor will evaluate notebooks while students take the quiz.
2. We will grade the quizzes at 8:40.
3. Each student will fill in grades on the grade worksheet.

Students may not have enough time to finish the open book quiz so the grade calculation will be adjusted to account for that.

Social Advocacy What Happened

Yesterday the instructor advised students that their outlines needed to be personalized. An example of how to personalize can be found in this letter.

We had as guest speakers two students, Michael George and Anthony Veiga, who told us about their group at Facebook. The students are against the schedule change.

We will do our three-minute speeches on Thursday. If you use sources, please hand in a Works Cited with your outline. This is mainly for speakers who speak on voting.

Comm 128 What Happened

Instructor handed back papers theory/film application papers. Any student who did not get their paper can email for grade.

We heard four student presentations of theories: Felicia, Senaya, Suzy, and Mike. Next week we will have approximately 16 presentations. Students should have three points they would like their colleagues to know about their theory.

The instructor lectured from the chapter on communication in the workplace: workplace relationships, organizational culture, organizational networks, workplace cliques, and organizational climate (defensive and supportive). Workplace abuse was also discussed.

Next week we will finish the student presentations and the instructor will review notebooks. Every notebook should have the student's research paper inside it. Students will watch a film while the instructor reviews the notebook.

This will be the last class.

Gas is going for 3.31 a gallon at three stations at the intersection of Morris Ave. (Rt. 82) and Liberty (1) and Burnet (2). All are within a few blocks of each other.

Be aware, though, that to get the good price one has to take cash! They don't inform the customer that they charge the higher price ($3.39) if a credit card is used.

Writing 102, Tues-Thurs, What Happened

Tuesday:

Research papers were handed in but they will also be accepted on Thursday.

We checked the drama quizzes in class and the instructor will record the grades and return them at Thursday's class.

We watched a video on critical thinking and the writing process. Students were asked to find three thoughts or ideas from the video that applied to their research paper. We will finish watching on Thursday.

On Thursday we will work on semicolons. Bring the Hacker guide and Lukeman, too.

What Happened Saturday 102

the instructor talked about drama: conventions, plot, characters, realistic theatre.
Students turned in drama papers. The drama quiz will be on the last day of class and paper will be corrected in class.

We watched a video about writing for an audience. It also had to do with critical thinking.

The instructor handed out two worksheets on semicolons. Students are to read the Hacker section on semicolons and place as many semicolons correctly as they can on one of the worksheets. The other worksheet is based on Lukeman and will be filled out in class when we watch the semicolon presentation next week.

Next week the final research paper is due.
